I am an experienced higher education professional with a demonstrated history of working in diverse higher education institutions. I believe in providing exceptional opportunities for the holistic development (intellectual, social and personal), academic excellence, and meaningful engagement of students.

I recently defended my PhD in Higher Education at Virginia Tech (VT). My academic research focuses on identity performance of Muslim international women on college campuses in the U.S. During my time at VT, I have been involved with university governance, and have influenced long-range strategic planning. I have worked with highly diverse undergraduate populations including: mentoring Global Ambassadors, and providing ongoing emotional, social, and academic support to first-generation, low-socioeconomic status students. I created trainings, workshops, experiences and programming and taught Academic Success Strategies courses. Currently, I am involved with assessment and program development to increase access for underrepresented, and low socioeconomic prospective students.

Prior to my Ph.D., I enjoyed seven years of professional experiences at Duke University. These experiences included hiring, training, supervising and leading highly motivated students and professionals, planning innovative educational and developmental programming, managing extensive budgets, crisis management, and academic advising. I particularly appreciated collaborative partnerships with faculty and administrators across the university; in creating welcoming and inclusive communities, providing intentional academic support, advocating for student needs, and designing programming and services grounded in student development (personal, social and academic), access, and engagement. All of these experiences, academic and professional, have taught me so much about working with in diverse institutions and with diverse students.

Our current administration is taking away much of the progress we have made as a country in regards to diversity and inclusion and is sending us back several de
