February 28th was the 6th anniversary of the release of the first Raspberry Pi and their blog released a post about the history of the small computer. I thought I’d make a post about what exactly a Raspberry Pi is and why it’s useful.
The Raspberry Pi was released in 2012 with the goal of providing a cheap computer for people to use in projects. The Model A was only $25 and had 512 MB of RAM. With this small computer, makers could add a programmable element to their projects and add features like a camera, touchscreen, lights, internet connectivity, and more. The most recent Pi, the Raspberry Pi 3, is even more powerful and allows you to do even more. Below are a few examples of projects people have made using the Raspberry Pi.
A smart mirror that displays the time and weather via a screen hidden behind the glass.
A retro game console.
A smartphone made with the Raspberry Pi Zero.
These are just a small sample of the projects people have made with the Raspberry Pi. If you want to get started making things with the Raspberry Pi, it’s easy. The cheapest Pi is only $5 and there are thousands of projects people have made with the code and tutorials posted online for free!
