Interdisciplinarity has become a mantra for change in the twenty-first century. The word appears in countless reports from professional associations, education organizations, funding agencies, and science policy bodies. It is a keyword in strategic plans, accompanied by a companion rhetoric of innovation, collaboration, competitiveness and the cutting edge. (C. G. Schneider in Klein, 2010, p. 1)
The purpose of this blog is to provide a forum for the rich discussions of interdisciplinary graduate education and research. The site is hosted by the Virginia Tech Graduate School and was initially designed for use by the VT Interdisciplinary Graduate Education Programs (IGEPs). It includes links to the first interdisciplinary research honor society known as Iota Delta Rho (IDR).
Interdisciplinary research and graduate education are very much a part of the higher education landscape today. We invite you to be a part of the informative and engaging dialogues.
