Politics and Higher Ed. in Europe

Overall, my specific interest in being a part of the 2017 Global Perspectives Program is to see how the intense and widespread political and economic shifts Europe has experienced over the past ten years have affected the cultures of higher education institutions. Switzerland is an ideal case since while they are a part of Schengen, they are not EU members. When it comes to the euro or refugee crises, Switzerland is of course affected but not the same way as actual EU members. Do these realities affect how professors and students see their role in Swiss/Euro societies? What kinds of students and professors are sought after by the universities? What kind of research is being conducted?
