Leap Motion Controller

Imagine controlling your computer using nothing more than a wave of the hand. Now you can make that vision reality with the Leap Motion Controller. It is a new technology that uses advanced motion-sensing hardware to significantly alter the way we interact with the personal computer.

Born from the in-lab frustrations of a 3d modeling engineer, the controller is designed to allow users to interact with software using intuitive hand gestures. An operator places his or her hands over the device while moving them along the x-y-z axes to enter commands such as click and zoom.

The Airspace App store was introduced to provide software to use with the Motion Controller. 75 applications were in the library at the time of launch. Developers who are interested in creating software for Leap are encouraged to sign up and join the growing community.

The unit, which comes in at $80, is compact enough to fit in the palm of your hand, but powerful enough to accurately recreate the detailed motion of your fingers.

Being a 1.0 installation, this software/hardware bundle should only improve from here. Several users around the net have criticized the device, citing controller sensitivity as the main issue. Still, with collaboration between developers and end users, the Leap Motion looks to revolutionize the world of motion-control technology.

Stupeflix

When people go on trips, go to wedding, or any event, they usually come back with a ton of pictures but don’t know what to do with them or for a special birthday, people want to look back on the years leading up to where the person is today. These are all perfect examples of when a video montage of pictures could come in handy. Luckily, there is Stupeflix. Stupeflix is a website that allows people to create videos with ease and simple to follow instructions.

The user can pick a theme for their video, themes can be a scrapbook, blueprint, party, and many more they can pick from to fit there video perfectly. Once the theme is decided, they can then upload pictures from their computer or import picture from Facebook, Instagram, Flickr, Dropbox, or Picasa. Then after adding titles and captions to the pictures, the user can decide on what music they want to go with their video, they can choose from the music that Stupeflix has or they can upload their own. Maps can be added to show where the photos were taken, whether it was a vacation or a special event. The user can record voiceovers with their own voice, or they can choose robots to speak. Once final touches such as transitions, timing, and video clips have been added, the video can be downloaded and saved. The user can publish it on YouTube, Facebook, or a blog.

The internet sensations that are memes. A picture with a witty saying or  sarcastic comment.

When I was a kid...

They have been making an appearance all over social media, showing up on Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest. THe motherload of memes is quickmeme.  Visitors to the site and go through page after page of memes that will make them giggle, rethink a previous belief, or just get confused. These memes have even been making appearances in class slideshow presentations, with teachers and professors putting them. Sometimes they come across a meme that fits that day’s discussion perfectly, or it is just far-fetched enough to make the class liven up a little.

Tagxedo

Tagxedo takes words and turns them into word clouds. Any words, famous speeches, articles, slogans, even love letter, if there are words, it can be created into a work of art. The words are individually sized to help create the shape if the object amongst the words. Users can customize their creation with font, theme, color, and shape. Just about any animal, plant, person, or idea can be created into a word cloud.

To create their own word cloud and image, users can put a URL in to a speech, song, or an article. They can even connect it to their Twitter or Facebook and create a cloud out of their tweets and statuses.

Vizify Name Breakdown

We’ve all googled ourselves, our friends, teachers, future employers, or anyone, just to see what would appear. Knowing people will be googling our names to get an idea of what kind of person we are, we should want to put our best foot out there.

Vizify is a revolutionary website that helps people to better market themselves on Google. When users sign up for Vizify, they connect their social media accounts such as Twitter, Facebook, and LinedIn to their account. Vizify then creates interactive infographics about their social media information. Graphics are created about where the user went to school, what they mention the most on Twitter and who they interact with the most. Pictures appear from Facebook, and past jobs from LinkedIn. Vizify also creates a video about the user’s activity on Twitter. By showing words they commonly use, the top three people they interact with, and what hours they are most likely to be tweeting. Visitors to the site can then scroll the multiple pages filled with these infographics about the user’s life.

The bio is always up to date and only showcases the best of the person’s social media activity. They bio can be added to their Facebook, LinkedIn account, Twitter, or even to their email signature.

This bio is a great way for people to stand out in a positive light with whoever might be googling them, whether it is a future employer or possible roommate. It’s also another reason to keep social media accounts sparkling clean.

Stormboard

Stormboard is a brainstorming and collaboration website where colleagues can work together in real time on a virtual board of sticky notes. With this board, they can add, organize, discuss, vote, and act on their proposed ideas. Each contributor can also comment on other people’s posts and sticky notes.One the group has decided which ideas they want to use and finished what they have been working on, they can export their results to a PDF, spread sheet, or a detailed report.

Stormboard is capable of running on laptops, smartphones, and tablet. This allows every contributor to work off of their own device wherever they may be.

For those who want to learn how to type coding on computers and how to create websites, Codeacademy, make it a simple task to learn with their step-by-step instructions. They provide eight courses filled with lessons and exercises to teach people how to code and how to create web features such as websites and JavaScript. Users can also learn how to create games and apps through this website. Once users have created their profiles, the better they get at coding and the more they learn, they can earn points and badges.

Beedocs: Timeline 3D

Timeline 3D is a program that can be installed on Mac, iPhones, and iPads that creates 3D virtual timelines. Users can chart dates, times, and places they have visited. The program can be used to tell stories by inserting images, video, narration, and music. When the computer, iPhone, or iPad are connected to a projection screen or television, that device becomes the remote control for the presentation.

To create a timeline users must purchase the software and can watch video demos  to get the overall idea of how it works. This software is looking to keep people’s attention more focused on presentations by having visually pleasing timelines brought in.
