Throughout this semester, I’ve becoming increasing interested in fabric and its use in furniture. Through taking my housing textiles class, I’ve had the opportunity to learn with a focus on more durable fabrics. While I didn’t get a chance to work with fabric on any studio projects this semester, the idea of incorporating it into furniture excites me. I wonder how it can work in furniture besides as the seat of a chair. Here some examples I’ve found of unexpected uses of fabric:
Personally I can see so many applications for fabric in furniture, and I can’t wait to explore its more unexpected applications. Felt is an area that seems to be explored a lot in furniture design recently, and I came across a website that showed student design work featuring felt in fabric.
