Beauty is a term that is used all the time, but what does it really mean in terms of design? To me, I think beauty in architecture is so unique to each individual because of the way each individual percieves the same thing. Beauty can be a simple building that is completely functional, or it could be one that is all about form. However, I think that the inbetween of form and function is what is truly beautiful. When there is a mix and the design fulfills the desired purpose while still having ornate or unique details, I believe the design contains beauty. Hierarchy also influences beauty because being able to pick out the important characteristics is so crucial in the design process. Form and function are driven by hierarchy and I believe that beauty is being able to combine the two to create something that is unique to the purpose it serves.

I absolutely agree, beauty is unique to the individual and our job as designers is to communicate that beauty to specific clients. Whether that means through complexity or simplicity. This is why research is extremely important in creation because we create for others not for our self. Also I agree that hierarchy plays a huge role in the message of design. The focus can often be lost in complex designs but when incorporating hierarchy the viewer can clearly focus on the assertion of interest.
