Center Benefits from Giving Day

Giving Day contributions advance the center’s mission to create and support opportunities for scientists, scholars, health professionals, and others to develop their abilities to communicate and connect.

This spring Center for Communicating Science director Patty Raun and Lesley Yorke, senior director of communications at Virginia Tech and member of the center’s steering committee, both served as Virginia Tech Giving Day ambassadors for the center. Karen DePauw, dean of the graduate school, created a category for the center within the graduate school’s Giving Day profile, as she did last year.

Many thanks to all who donated during the March 19-20 Giving Day drive! We appreciate the contributions enormously.

Giving Day is over, but the center can always benefit greatly from donations from alumni, corporate sponsors, and friends. Much of what we do is “on a shoestring”–graduate students paying for their own gas to drive out to Giles County and back for the kindergarten science visits, Science on Tap supported through the passing of a jar for contributions, and the like. If there’s a particular project you’d like to support, let us know. Gifts made without restriction allow us to allocate resources to where they’re most needed. We’re full of ideas!
