Final Thoughts

Overall I think this was a pretty interesting class. I thought the projects were unique and engaging, I learned something new about photography too! Filming the video was probably my favorite project because it was something I’ve never done before. My absolute favorite activity was definitely making the rattle/shaker, it was  very relaxing and I’m happy with how my sculpture came out, I can’t wait to paint it!

Enjoy your Summer!

Signing off, Julia

Favorite Music

I like most music genres (besides dubstep and country), so what I listen to really depends on my mood. My favorite songs all come from when I was growing up in the early 2000’s. Some of my favorite artists from that era are All American Rejects, The Killers, Linkin Park, and Paramore. From time to time I’ll also listen to early 2000’s pop songs from artists like Britney Spears, B.O.B., Bruno Mars, and Jason Derulo.

I’ve never been to a concert, but I have been to small local rock shows for smaller bands in the DMV area. Those are a lot of fun! Origami Angel is one of the bands I saw live and are one of my favorite bands.

In terms of the best musical artist I really can’t say which one I think is the best. Queen has made some of the most consistently good music, but I wouldn’t consider them my favorite band. All music appeals to someone, so I can’t really say who’s the “best” or the “worst”.

Short Video

This is my short video project, titled Click. It showcases different lights in my room; the way they sound, their brightness, the time it takes for them to turn on, etc.

Annotated Bibliography – Climate Change

  • Letzter, Rafi. “Are We Really Running Out of Time to Stop Climate Change?” LiveScience, Purch, 26 Sept. 2019, www.livescience.com/12-years-to-stop-climate-change.html.
    • Scientists have predicted that we only have 12 years (now 10) to slow climate change enough before it becomes irreversible. This does not mean that the world will end in 12 years, but that humanity will have to learn to adapt to the consequences s of global warming. The best path to follow is reducing our net emissions by 45% by 2030, and net zero by 2050. Climate change has already killed thousands of people, through disease and crop destruction, and will only continue to worsen each year we don’t take action.

  • “Is It Too Late to Prevent Climate Change? – Climate Change: Vital Signs of the Planet.” NASA, NASA, climate.nasa.gov/faq/16/is-it-too-late-to-prevent-climate-change/.
    • Even if we stop emitting greenhouse gasses today, global warming will still continue as it could still take centuries for the planet to respond. Despite this, we can still act now to lessen the effects of climate change using a “mitigation” and “adaptation” approach. This is a global effort, however, and we need to start working together with world and local governments to start making a difference.

Favorite Movie

My favorite movie of all time is Jim Carrey’s The Mask. It’s a comedy/action from the 90’s that still holds up today, I never get tired of watching it. The comedic bits are distributed well among the more serious undertones of the film, which makes it more entertaining than a strictly comedy or crime movie. I think the cartoony VFX were good for its time and do an excellent job of combining toon physics with reality. The jazzy soundtrack also fits perfectly with the setting and theme; a crime-filled city with a bustling nightlife.

Found Items in the Library

Blue Book on Another Floor

For this prompt I found a series of blue books on one of the library shelves and decided to take a picture that captured all of them rather than just one. I liked how some books were different shades, almost creating a gradient-like effect.

Something Related to my Study

In the library there was a large collage on the wall made up of different fabrics. I felt like this was related to my major, graphic design, because of how it demonstrates creative expression.

Something that’s Not a Book

While wandering around the library I found this globe that stood out. I decided to take a portrait photo of it rather than landscape because I wanted to document most of the object.
