The GPP halfway point

We have a week of GPP under our belt. We have visited universities in Switzerland (University of Zurich, ETH and University of Basel) and France (University of Strasbourg). This trip thus far has sparked more questions than answers. Reading about others’ educational systems is not the same as actually speaking to those who operate within those systems. My research topic has completely shifted based our of university visits and being immersed in a different environment. European universities have open access to undergraduate education which is different from what we call open enrollment in the U.S. How can universities prepare or have enough resources if the number first year cohort varies every year? Is job satisfaction among administrators high? Do they have high turnover do the work load? Or does the standardization of salary eliminate all those of those concerns? I guess I need to keep asking questions. Now off to get some gelato!
