Faculty salary and University reputation

When I found the data of average faculty salaries, 2012-13, I am very curious about the relationship between the average salary and the university reputation. I created a table to compare between two simply as below.

This is interesting data. A cursory review would indicate that, for the most part, the top 10 universities ranked by salary are located in two or more of the third party rankings, with NYU being an exception. One could logically conclude that salary is a contributing factor to attracting the best faculty, which in turn influences the quality of the institution. Was that your conclusion?
