Reading this article, several points crossed my mind.
First, it was more evident that an education system of a country cannot be observed outside of its social, political, and economical context.
Second point relates to “alternative learning” that necessary bases on the social investment that a learner needs to have a priori to motivation/capability for present learning.
Third, the property tax funding of public schools is first thing in desperate need for a change.
The way I see it, I would change current US educational vision from “No child left behind” into “Every child given a chance” – I just feel that the idea of equality should not be misused as it is becoming with this first principle. Having all the kids knowing all the same things is resulting in loosing the biggest quality human race has – diversity. This can only be achieved through customized education. No matter if you are a type of the person that likes to sits down and listen to someone lecture or if you are someone who performs well reading in advance and then discussing details with a professor – both will receive the right environment for developing your natural or desired skills.
