Chapter History

The Virginia Tech Chapter of Minorities, Agriculture and Natural Resources (MANRRS) was established in 1995.  Dr. Randy Grayson advanced the idea. (From 1985-1989, the founding organizers at Michigan State University and Penn State University worked to create the national organization.  A more detailed history of the national organization is available here.)  With the support of Dr. Larry Moore, then department head of Plant Pathology and Weed Science, faculty, staff, and students came together to create the structure.  Providing a place where students, staff, and faculty could find mutual support and interest continues to be a central mission of the organization. We would love to hear from founding members and alums and build a more complete history of the formation of our chapter.  (Please reach out to Dr. Haas or the University Archives and join our Linked In group.)
