Green & “Green”

Sustainable stormwater management was the topic that Aboulmueen talked about on Nov.12. He would like to highlight the importance of practice of green infrastructure in solving the environmental problems, and broaden horizon for the future research and design. One of his questions attracted my attention. He would like to explore the channel along water should be “green” or green for the stormwater management? “Green” is defined as sustainable in this question and green just means plants.

It is important for us to clarify the difference between green and “green”. A lot of times we just ignore the “green”- sustainable have much more levels of content than green. Sustainable can be lots of design strategies like recycle materials or some more environmental friendly design that not has to be full of plants. Only when we know exactly about it can we think more about the “green” design.

I agree. Even plants cycle into a dormant or non green phases. We need more work on sustainability science terminology.
