Henry Smart is a military veteran, with over 15 years of service with the U.S. Marine Corps and the National Guard. Throughout his professional career, he has acquired knowledge and experience in the areas of information technology, contracts management, nonprofit management, and social and public administration. He holds his Master of Science in Social Administration from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Morgan State University. After completing his studies at Columbia, Henry provided program management at various non-profit organizations in the New York City metropolitan area. Additionally, he worked as an independent consultant—providing workshop facilitation on topics pertaining to professional and personal development. Henry is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Public Administration and Public Affairs at Virginia Tech. His current research focuses on colorism and public practices, narratives related to state and local policy agreement, and the intersection of political pork and disaster preparedness. He is strongly considering a career opportunity with academia, a think tank or a federal agency that provides oversight for social programs.
