Missional Statement
“Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) is a public land-grant university serving the Commonwealth of Virginia, the nation, and the world community. The discovery and dissemination of new knowledge are central to its mission. Through its focus on teaching and learning, research and discovery, and outreach and engagement, the university creates, conveys, and applies knowledge to expand personal growth and opportunity, advance social and community development, foster economic competitiveness, and improve the quality of life”

“As a public research university, Texas Tech advances knowledge through innovative and creative teaching, research, and scholarship. The university is dedicated to student success by preparing learners to be ethical leaders for a diverse and globally competitive workforce. The university is committed to enhancing the cultural and economic development of the state, nation, and world. * TTU

Reflection
Both institutions laid emphasis on innovations, research teaching and learning, community, and economic development. Also, both aim to serve the state, the nation, and the world at large. The word innovations say a lot about the university’s missions and its effectiveness during the pandemic. Both institutions can adjust to blended teaching and effectively due to the tools and resources they have been able to acquire via innovative teaching, learning, and research. Each institution seems to have similar mission statements. However, Texas Tech focused on making learner/students ethical leaders for the competitive workforce, I don’t know how realistic that can be because ethics seems to be an attitudinal skill and such skill can be sometimes difficult to measure or determine. While Virginia Tech emphasized expanding personal growth and opportunities for students which is a more generic and safe statement for a mission.
Reasons for choosing the university
I chose Virginia Tech because I had my master’s in Agricultural Extension Education at VT, and I am currently doing my Ph.D. While I chose Texas Tech because it’s one of the top 25 best institutions for Agricultural extension and science same as Virginia Tech and Texas Tech was my second choice for my Ph.D.
