About Health Professions Advising

What we do:

Health Professions Advising [HPA] at Virginia Tech assists students and alumni pursuing a health care career in medicine, dentistry, optometry, pharmacy, chiropractic, occupational therapy, nursing, physician’s assistant, veterinary medicine, or other graduate health professions.

For whom:

Any Virginia Tech student, alumnus or alumna, in any major, can use our services. Although the majority of health professions students major in a science field, it is not required.

First steps:

Students and alumni who are new to the services of this office, please begin with information for advisees.

How to schedule an appointment:

Read information for advisees. It will tell you first steps, including how to schedule an appointment

Attend an Information Session:

We have a number of information sessions and events throughout the year. We highly suggest attending an HPA 101: General Information or HPA 202: The Competitive Applicant session before scheduling an appointment with an HPA advisor. You can find the schedule of events here.
