Non-Profit Health Care/Health Policy Internship – The National Hispanic Medical Association provides an outstanding opportunity for students interested in a semester internship nonprofit program careers in the health care, public health prevention, as well as national advocacy and policy analysis. NHMA focuses on improving the health of Hispanic populations and works closely with its membership and partners – physicians, health professionals, residents, medical students as well as the Federal government, Congress, and private sector partners which impact health care to our communities.  Current programs are focused on HIV, Immunizations,

Event Management and Meeting Planning: The National Hispanic Medical Association hosts an annual conference and several receptions, (2) Congressional Briefings, throughout the year, a Resident Leadership Program, and a Leadership Fellowship Program. Its foundation, the National Hispanic Health Foundation, also hosts two scholarship dinners throughout the year (NY and CA).  Interns are expected to assist with registration, program planning, event and venue logistics, designing communication pieces, updating databases, following up with speakers and sponsors, and managing the organization’s checklist for events.  Please note that the written event management description generally applies to spring and winter interns because the events are held in October (region forums) and December (scholarship dinners) and May (Annual Conference).  NHMA’s biggest program is its Annual Conference as it involves an almost year round planning.   Interns are also expected to assist in tasks that the NHMA’s foundation, the National Hispanic Health Foundation (NHHF) may require. Please send cover letter and resume to interns@nhmamd.org

Communications Internship:  The National Hispanic Medical Association coordinates social media based health communications campaigns with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on HIV Awareness, with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) on Clinical Practice Transformation and with the Association of State and Territorial Health Officers (ASTHO) on Adult Immunizations as well as monthly and weekly NHMA Membership and Network communications.  NHMA sends out eNewsletter, Weekly Announcements, coordinates Twitter chats and Webinars as well as manages a 2 websites and a portal (HispanicHealth.info). NHMA monitors and reports on all campaigns.

Qualifications: Interest in health and/or event/meeting planning. Strong research skills coupled with good multitasking skills. Ability to get along with others and work in a fast paced office. Proficient in Microsoft Office and a plus if knows photo shop and social media. Good communication skills. Good phone/email etiquette. Office work experience a plus.

Benefits: Payment at $10 per hour if student not taking the internship for credit. Open to Undergraduate and Graduate Students. Please send cover letter and resume to interns@nhmamd.org
