University of South Carolina Med School Application Preparation Extreme

The University of South Carolina’s Office of Pre-Professional Advising is hosting its annual, intensive five-day program that assists pre-med students as they prepare for their med school application. The Application Preparation EXtreme (APEX) is a residential program that offers personal attention to each participant along with many activities to help them prepare a compelling application. Applicants must have 60 hours of earned college credit by the end of this school year to attend.  The program includes an AMCAS overview with helpful hints and instructions, a Myers Briggs Type Indicator workshop, personal statement workshop with follow-up assistance, an interview skills workshop with practice, two simulated med school interviews with written feedback, and in-depth discussions about health care issues.   We will also tour the gross anatomy lab at the USC School of Medicine, shadow in local hospitals, and have a panel presentation by students who have been through the process.  The counselors for this program are current medical students who are available the entire time to offer advice and assistance. This opportunity will help highly-motivated students learn how to showcase their abilities, skills, and motivation throughout the application process to med school.  Please see the attached flyer.

The program will take place May 29-June 2, 2016.  To hear from some students who have attended the program in past years, please contact Eileen Korpita at Korpita@sc.edu or 803-777-5581.
