The Student Life Council-Call for Applications!

Applications due Friday, March 25.

The Student Life Council at Virginia Tech serves as a primary advisory group for the Senior Associate Vice President for Student Affairs. Led by a student co-chair, and comprising a diverse committee of 10-18 students, the Student Life Council meets twice monthly to discuss relevant student issues, provide input on emerging projects important to campus life, and offer counsel to areas reporting to the Senior Associate Vice President (Career Services, Dining Services, Fraternity & Sorority Life, Housing & Residence Life, and Student Conduct) related to policy, practice, and the aspirations for student learning. In addition, since the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs co-chairs the Virginia Tech/Town of Blacksburg “Town-Gown” committee with the Blacksburg Deputy Town Manager, council members also participate in monthly Town-Gown Meetings as part of their responsibility and facilitate one student forum at one town-gown meeting a semester.

In consultation with the student co-chair, the Senior Associate Vice President for Student Affairs appoints council members for an academic year (April to April). The Council meets twice a month; once on selected Thursday afternoons from 3:30-5:00 and on Thursdays at 5:00 pm for dinner prior to attending a monthly Town-Gown meeting from 6:00-7:30. Since the primary purpose of the Student Life Council is advisory, there is minimal time commitment beyond the required meetings described above. Council members, however, will be frequently informed of optional activities where student input is needed.

Students interested in serving on the 2016-2017 Student Life Council should an application via GobblerConnect by Friday, March 25th. The application can be accessed here. (You will need to log-in to Gobblerconnect to access the application!)

Students must be in good standing with Virginia Tech and the application involves a check of academic and conduct standing. Interested students must have a robust interest in strengthening campus life at Virginia Tech, and commit to being available during the times outlined above for a period between August 2016 and April 2017. Questions about the Student Life Council can be directed to the Chair-Elect, Kameron Mangin at kameron7@vt.edu.
