What is the TFP?
The Travel Fund Program (TFP) is the GSA’s most popular program, and is sponsored by the Graduate School and the Virginia Tech Office of the Provost. TFP provides partial grants to cover graduate student conference travel (this includes transportation, registration fees, lodging, and meals). All graduate students — traveling within the U.S. or internationally — are eligible to apply. The program also can be used to support international travel.
Travel Fund Cycles
This year we are dividing the entire program into three cycles for faster reimbursements. The cycles are Fall Cycle (Travel dates July 1 – October 31st), Winter Cycle (Travel Dates Nov 1 – Feb 28), and Spring Cycle (Travel Dates March 1 – June 30).
The application dates for the Spring Cycle, covering travel start date within March 1, 2019, to June 30, 2019, will be from April 1, 2019, to April 15, 2019.
So, please make sure that you don’t miss the deadline to apply for travel fund. And, apply early!
Winter Cycle applications have been reviewed and awarded – check your email to determine if you received funding and to learn about the process for reimbursement.
In a few days, you will be able to find the link of the application in the “TFP Instruction Spring Cycle 2019” located in the application material folder. Please read the application guide thoroughly before starting the application. The required application materials elaborating all the process steps are available in two PDFs via this Google Drive.
This past Fall Cycle 2018 and Winter Cycle of 2019, we awarded 200+ graduate students $66,000 for their travels. Furthermore, the program had an 88% acceptance rate! This means that, if you apply, you’ll probably get something. We encourage you to take advantage of this program!
