Changes have been made to the application process for the upcoming travel fund cycle. Letters from your advisor and the verification page are no longer required. GSA will instead be sending an automated verification email with a survey to a committee member indicated on your application. Please ensure that this person completes this survey or your application will not be assessed.
What is the TFP?
The Travel Fund Program (TFP) is the GSA’s most popular program, and is sponsored by the Graduate School and the Virginia Tech Office of the Provost. As funding is limited, TFP provides partial grants to cover graduate student conference travel (this includes transportation, registration fees, lodging, and meals). All graduate students — traveling within the U.S. or internationally — are eligible to apply. The program also can be used to support international travel.
Travel Fund Cycles
This year we are dividing the entire program into three cycles for faster reimbursements. The cycles are Fall Cycle (Travel dates July 1 – October 31st), Winter Cycle (Travel Dates Nov 1 – Feb 28), and Spring Cycle (Travel Dates March 1 – June 30). Applications for Winter Cycle will be accepted during the last two weeks of the cycle – February 14-28th.
The application dates for individual cycles will be announced soon – please watch this page for more information. Deadlines will also be announced on our Calendar, our Facebook page, our Twitter account, and through the weekly Graduate School listserv email.
Special Note: Leap Year
This is a Leap Year, so we have a Feb 29th on the calendar. If your travel begins on the 29th, you will apply during the Spring Cycle.
Winter Cycle Applications will be accepted from February 14th to 28th (link will ONLY be live during this time period). Application Materials can be found in this Google Drive – please note you will need to be logged into your vt.edu Google Account in order to access.
