 – The Active Times

Stop by for one or all of these activities! No preregistration is required.

TABLE TENNIS – New equipment is installed in the Community Café on the first floor of the Northern Virginia Center. Chang-Tien (CT) Lu, associate professor in the Department of Computer Science, has organized weekly tournaments on Wednesday afternoons beginning at 3:00 p.m., all are welcome to participate.

TAI CHI ON NVC CAMPUS – Dr. Lu also leads a Tai Chi group on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings, 7:30 – 8:30 a.m., in the gardens at the Northern Virginia Center. What a great way to greet the day! “Immediate benefits from practicing tai chi tend to be a clearer and more relaxed mind – and this can happen on day 1. Clinical studies in the US report improved balance and peace of mind after only 8 weeks of a very simple set of movements taken from a variety of tai chi styles. Other, less expected, benefits of tai chi include improved working of internal organs, better breathing, and finding it easier to sleep at night.  People report more strength, stamina, and suppleness as a direct result of doing their ta chi. For others, tai chi benefits come in the form of reduced stress, and an improved ability to deal with difficult situations.”

ZUMBA FITNESS WITH MIRLA! Mirla Abi Aad is a graduate student in Civil Engineering and a licensed Zumba instructor. This free class meets every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in room 100 in the Northern Virginia Center (except holidays).
