Scientific Research Publishing (SCIRP) is one of the largest open access journal publishers. Since my major is in Civil and Environmental Engineering with a focus on Construction Engineering and Management, I decided to look at the open journal of civil engineering which is part of the SCIRP. This journal is currently publishing more than 200 open access, online, and peer-reviewed journals in a wide range of disciplines. SCIRP has over 5000 professional editorial board members which facilitate the publishing activities. Over 41000 articles have already been published with SCRIP. SCRIP aims to contribute to the progress and applications of science. This journal is located in China and they believe that due to globalization, this is not an issue.
This journal describes open access as follows:
“All original research papers published by SCIRP are made freely and permanently accessible online immediately upon publication. To be able to provide open access journals, SCIRP defrays operation costs from authors and subscription charges only for its printed version. Open access publishing allows an immediate, worldwide, barrier-free, open access to the full text of research papers, which is in the best interests of the scientific community.
• High visibility for maximum global exposure with open access publishing model
• Rigorous peer review of research papers
• Prompt faster publication with less cost
• Guaranteed targeted, multidisciplinary audience”
With regards to the open access movement, I believe that it adds a significant value to the body of knowledge considering that it can be accessed by anyone. However at least in my field (construction engineering and management), I have not found any open access articles which could guide me in my area of research. This is due to the fact that most researchers in my field choose to publish in other journals such as the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) journal since such journals have a higher H index value. Also, I have never referenced any open access journals in my research since the scope of the available research in such journals is very narrow. As this is a cause and affect issue not many researchers are encouraged to publish their work in open access journals. If the professors advising the graduate students encourage them to publish in such journals, in the future we may have a larger group of researchers interested in publishing their work in the open access journals.
Just so you are aware, SCRIP is actually on the list of potential predatory publishers! I knew this name because our librarians alerted us to issues with a journal we published a paper in that is from this group. [See Beall’s List for more information: http://scholarlyoa.com/publishers/%5D
It’s hard to say. Even a terrible journal may occasionally publish a worthwhile paper, submitted by someone unaware of the organization’s reputation, so we couldn’t learn much from one case. That’s to say we cannot completely deny the value of the publisher just because of individual negative news. It is not right.
Wow! Thanks Tanya!
Beall’s list is the personal opinion. I think an author should learn more about the journal or publisher before submission, but we should not take the beall’s list as the only factor to submit a paper. We all have our own judgment. A few days ago, I have just seen the post through Linkedin about the h-5 index: http://www.linkedin.com/hp/update/6225246348422275073
Interesting! Thanks William!
Yes, I always receive invitation letters to publish with them, including Scientific Research Publishing (SCIRP). Maybe because I registered in their website before. Sometimes, they sent me some newsletter in my research field, which are interesting.
Even though the publisher was in Beall’s List of Predatory, Open-Access Publishers, but Jeffrey Beall has also made a disclaimer that these views only represented his own personal opinions, all related pages have now been moved off.
And I have heard from my friend that his colleague still published with the publisher even he knew the publisher was in Beall’s List of Predatory, because he believed what he saw on the website, the quality of papers published in SCIRP have been greatly enhanced during the past few years.
Scientific Research Publishing (SCIRP) is currently publishing more than 200 open access, online, peer-reviewed journals covering a wide range of academic disciplines. Its review process is good, efficient and excellent suggestions are made. Also, it can get your publication out quickly.
Scientific Research Publishing (SCIRP) is a leading open access academic publisher with main features as below: open access with high visibility, peer review, rapid publishing, widespread with world coverage, good statistics of Google-based impact factor and H5-index, world-class indexing, high downloads and citations per article, professional typesetting and proofreading.
Scientific Research Publishing (SCIRP) is one of the largest Open Access journal publishers. It is currently publishing more than 200 open access, peer-review journals. We kept learning from the precious experience of other publishers and making improvements day by day. The quality of the journals is under strict control.
I’m not sure whether open access will be popular in the future, but it exactly helps many scholars to have a free access to many research papers, most of which contains important research data. The authors pay for their paper so that their research works can be shared by more and more people. I think it counts.
Open Access journals are relatively new comparing with traditional publishing, but it is becoming a tendency, since more and more respected presses with long history have founded their own OA journals. SCIRP has published hundreds of thousands of articles since 2008, which obtained tons of citations and views. Even if open access journals are not popular, at least SCIRP’s are recognized by some people.
Being is reasonable. I think open access journals are an innovation compared to traditional publications. It allows authors to get free copies of their papers online. Among the many open access journal publishers, Scientific Research Publishing is relatively large and the publishing time is long enough. I think that a publishing house that has been running for more than 10 years has its own advantages. And it is still growing and improving.
I have published an article in the journal Sociology Mind before, which belongs to Scientific Research Publishing. However, I have had a good experience. The reviewers have given me many professional opinions and the editors have helped me a lot. I should publish my article in this publisher again next time.
Open Journal of Psychiatry is a good journal in Scientific Research Publishing. There are 1556 citations for papers published in the journal OJPsych as of December 2019 based on the statistics from Google Scholar. 358 papers have been published in OJPsych, which has 1,128,134 downloads and 1,721,315 views now. It’s a good choice to submit papers here.
“Open Access” is the most popular publication mode in the world, especially during this bad and prolonged health crisis all over the world. Scholars can share their scientific research outcomes better in the mode of “Open Access” than traditional publication. Their articles will attract more attention and may get more citations if they choose a suitable platform, such as Scientific Research Publishing (SCIRP), which has published more than one hundred thousand papers till date.
A lot of published papers are very popular, such as:
Cadmium Toxicity in Plants and Role of Mineral Nutrients in Its Alleviation
Rahat Nazar, Noushina Iqbal, Asim Masood, M. Iqbal R. Khan, Shabina Syeed, Nafees A. Khan
American Journal of Plant Sciences Vol.3 No.10, November 1, 2012

It is quite right that scholars should very carefully choose the journals if they want to have their works published. Before you submit you may conduct more surveys about the publishers and journals. Observe with your own eye. SCIRP does publish a large number of mixed-quality articles… But correspondingly it is less demanding. At least it is legit.

I think you have a bias against this magazine. If you think the company is bad from the beginning, even if someone (an expert in a particular field) published an article in this magazine, you will think they are stupid and cheated. As an open-access journal, publishing fees are their only source of income. They invested a lot of human and material resources in the whole publishing process.
As we know, an open access paper can get more views and citations during its life circle since it is free to readers. We can promote them on Facebook, Linkedin, Google and other channels to increase the downloads and citations of our papers.
One of my colleagues has published a paper in a journal from SCIRP. He said they have a rapid process to publish a paper. And his paper has been read by many readers. Readers can judge themselves about the quality and significance of published material. If an author publishes inferior papers it soon will be recognized as ignorant to the subject and nobody will read his/her papers anymore.
I don’t know whether Beall has actually investigated all journals in SCIRP. However, I had ever published several papers in SCIRP. I think it’s a good experience to publish papers with it. Furthermore, more and more journals are open access journals, which would help researchers to get access to more research result, so that they could improve their experimental methods.
Readers of open access journals can read and download articles without paying any fees. This will bring a huge amount of reading and downloading to the published articles. Some excellent open access journals also publish high-quality articles. High-quality articles and extensive reading will be a huge advantage of open access journals.
Compared with traditional journals, open access journals are new. It takes time for new things to grow. At least scholars could have a try and let their works read by a wider range of people.
In today’s increasingly diversified and globalized world, I believe that Open Access publishing has become an inevitable trend of development. More and more excellent referees and editorial members in related research areas support us to help with the review work. Now Scientific Research Publishing (SCIRP) is a mature, large-scale international publishing house.
Currently, lots of professors encouraged their students to publish their research papers in open-access journals.
It’s a great way to share one’s scientific opinions with readers all over the world.
Students can get feedback from more professional scientists, which will surely help them a lot.
Scientific Research Publishing, one of the biggest open-access publishers, is also highly recommended by many professors.
With the development of the internet, I think open-access publishing will be more and more popular.
I think more and more scholars choose to publish their works in open access journals no matter whether you accept it or not. We can see many leading scholars have published academic papers in journals under Scientific Research Publishing.
From my perspective, Open Access journals will become more and more popular, which help spread interesting research findings as well as facilitate the development of scientific fields. More and more people will be attracted by these worthy research works and pay more attention to science. It’s fine for me if journals have publication fees. As the above-mentioned publisher, SCIRP may be a good choice to publish your research paper quickly.
I am a doctor of linguistics, and I like to publish my latest works in Open Journal of Modern Linguistics. The publishing fee is not expensive, the publishing progress is very efficient, and the comments are valuable. My articles have also received the attention of authors from all over the world. They emailed to me to express their different views. I think this would be a promotion for my academic research.
Many comments on different platforms show that this publishing house is not worthy of publishing papers on as it is on the predatory list. But we already submitted our manuscript to one of its journals entitled Open Journal of Physical Sciences and completed the payment at that moment. Therefore, we sent those comments online to their coordinators and know that the one who made that list had even deleted the original link before. Through the whole publication process including peer review and typesetting process, it seems that they did check the quality of their publications.
I think the list is created by Beall, it’s his personal idea, not official.
The publishing house SRP (Scientific Research publishing) has established for more than ten years, it has been published lots of papers, including 9 subjects. I think it should be reliable.
The open access journals have many advantages. In general, a paper is easier and quicker to be published in the open access journal, compared with the traditional journal. On the one hand, the authors will acquire the latest knowledge timely as well as openly. On the other hand, the open access journals also expand the researchers’ influence. Just keep an open mind to the open access journals.
Judging from the present trend, Open Access Journals are slowly becoming the mainstream of publishing articles for many scholars around the world, for academic research, graduation, propaganda, work, reputation and so on. Though, I haven’t ever published any research in SCIRP, I know a little from my colleague who has published his thesis for graduation successfully, peer-reviewed, rapid publication, lifetime hosting, free indexing service, free promotion service, search engine friendly, etc,.
I thank you can refer to your university’s requirements. It is OK for me.
That is important.
The fact is that open access is getting pupolar now. Your work is immediately available in its entirety and free to reuse and remix with attribution. Researchers can read and build on the findings of others without restriction, science advances faster.
Open access has its advantages, it is gradually accepted by more and more scholars. To publish in open access journals would be a good choice.
Scientific Research Publishing is a legal publishing house. It contains more than 200 open access journals. Numerous papers are published by SCIRP every year. It has been questioning mainly because of the Beal’s list, which stands for the benefit of the traditional publishers and list almost all the open access journals. Nevertheless, open access journals help to promote excellent published papers to a larger amount of readers.
Medicine
Scientific Research Publishing (SCIRP) is popular among scholars of various countries. It currently has more than 200 open access journals in the areas of science, technology and medicine. Their works are efficient and professional. Papers published there could be searched on Google.
I published a paper on Natural Resources two years ago. It is a great experience for me. The service is quite good and my paper was cited by many other scholars. Besides, the peer reviewers gave me many good advices to my paper. The team of SCIRP is professional and helpful. A nice experience!
Last year, my friend has submitted a paper into Open Journal of Animal Sciences. This is a journal of Scientific Research Publishing. The review process is very regular, and the reviewers also give my friend a lot of professional suggestions. I think this is a journal worth publishing.
I published a new paper in one of their journal called Open Journal of Genetics one year ago. It is a good journal and I like it. I also recommend the journal to my friends. Now I thought there are more than 400 papers in the journal and it has a large number of views and downloads. Some of the papers are so interesting.
Open access is an author pay model. SCIRP Publishers is an open access model publication house. Authors are requested to pay the publication fee from the university/institute funds available to their group. Open Access is undoubtedly the best possible way out for disseminating information across a global community without any hindrance.
The open access publishing format provides authors with a lot of convenience. In the past, authors had to spend a lot of money on traditional paper publishing. But open source journals allow authors to sit at home and receive thousands of news and information for free. I think this is a good thing.
Last year, my classmate introduced the journal Open Journal of Energy Efficiency for me, as I must publish a paper before graduation.
I received two comments upon submitting the paper for two weeks, the comments are helpful for me.
However, I am a student with a low income, the editor assistant gave me an affordable price.
I enjoyed a pleasant publication journey, and I think I will recommend my friends in the future.
