Darby McPhail – President

Who are you? What do you do?
Hello! I am a master’s student in Dr. Marcella Kelly’s WHAPA lab conducting research in Belize, Central America on their purrrfect pumas! I will be the FIWGSA president for the upcoming year and am excited to be able to work with you all and the faculty.

What’s your favorite aspect of your research?
It is a dream come true for me to work internationally on pumas, and I love most aspects of my work (except for maybe all the mosquitos). My favorite part is working, connecting, and collaborating with a diverse group of people in Belize and from around the world. I also love the challenge of coming up with creative solutions on the fly for unique field situations while out hiking, chopping, and off-roading.

My favorite Blacksburg activity is running the Huckleberry Trail with my dog, and sitting out on the 622 North patio with a cold drink!
