The List

I decided that I want a place where I list all of my favorite movies, and what better place to do it than in a blog post? I’m fairly critical of movies, so this list is the best of the best. I’ve mentally had it running for a while, but now I’ll write it out. Then, if anyone is ever bored and wants to know a really good movie, I can refer them here. Okay, here goes:

  • Doubt
  • The Prestige
  • Prisoners
  • Mulholland Drive
  • Moonrise Kingdom
  • The Usual Suspects
  • Perks of Being a Wallflower
  • Pan’s Labyrinth
  • Blackfish
  • Religulous
  • Peacock

I will keep coming back and adding to this as I see new movies / remember old ones!

Hand Done Typography

For my Graphic Design Final, we had to create something incorporating hand done typography. This meant drawing out the type, then scanning it into the computer to create paths from it so I could change the colors, size, etc. In the end, I went with a quote poster that says “Silence is better than bullshit”. I knew since this was my first time with hand done type that I had to keep it simple. Here’s the final result, hung up above my desk in my room.

Back to the old grind

Over the summer, I was able to lose over 16 lbs when I came home before my brother’s wedding. The way I did it was by doing the Insanity workout videos with my brother, combined with eating a lot healthier than I was at school. Now that I’m home for break again, and since my family is leaving on December 30th for a tropical vacation in Turks and Caicos, I decided I’d have to expedite the process and try again. It took me just around 2 months in the summer, 1 month of which I was doing Insanity. In those 30 days, I saw and felt significant improvement. This time, I have 15 days. I’m currently on day 4, and I’m pretty sore and have a bunch of other things to do. This time, in addition, I have cut out simple carbs from my diet. No sugary sweets, bread, etc. While I already feel better, I’m not sure if I’ll have enough time to really lose what I want to lose by the time we leave for our trip.

Deliver Us From Evil

Recently, while home for break, I was bored and decided to find a good documentary to watch. One that got 100% on Rotten Tomatoes was called Deliver Us From Evil, and after watching the trailer I had to watch it. The documentary follows an ex-Catholic Priest who has admitted to sexually assaulting numerous children during the 70′s and 80′s in California. It also features interviews with the victims and their families. At first, the stories were just sick, but after seeing the effect that the events had on the victims entire lives, I realized this was bigger than the incident. It was an incredibly interesting and moving documentary, as the interviews turned into a lot of screaming and crying. As an anti-theist atheist, this documentary reaffirmed a lot of beliefs I have held about corruption in churches, especially the Catholic Church, all the way up to the Vatican.

Results of my Survey

For a project that I am doing, I surveyed 48 people and asked them how social media made them feel. I was surprised to learn that Facebook makes people feel the most depressed, and Snapchat makes people the happiest. It might be a sign that Facebook is on the out, and Snapchat is on the rise. It’s interesting that we’re happier sending ugly pictures of ourselves for 5 seconds than we are with the basically unlimited connection and networking that comes from Facebook. I think this just shows that we all just want the newest, shiniest new toy.

Semester In Review…not too bad.

As I look back on this semester, I realize that it was lined up to be one of the toughest semesters of college so far for me. It was my first time taking 18 credit hours, I was taking an online art history course, a course using a program I’d never used before, my first writing course, my core graphic design class, and a management course for the first time.

Now that I’m home, I realize the semester flew by. Surprisingly, it was one of my easiest! It might just be my time management getting better, but I probably pulled 2 or 3 all-nighters this semester, as opposed to 18 my first semester of Freshman year! I can’t wait to finish up this last project and be completely done with another semester. 5 down, 3 to go.
