First HathiTrust members meeting held on October 10, 2014

The first annual members meeting of the HathiTrust was held in Washington, DC on Friday, October 10, 2014.  About 75 people representing over 60 member institutions and consortia were in attendance.  Recently appointed executive director Mike Furlough and two other staff members represented HathiTrust.  Mike led a discussion about strategic directions for the Trust.  Some of the issues the executive board is discussing are:

  • membership for non-US institutions
  • services to individuals with print disabilities
  • deepening engagement with researchers at individual libraries
  • becoming more independent from the University of Michigan
  • inclusion of non-print materials in the digital archive

Task forces have been appointed to study some of these issues.  I have planning briefs and notes from the meeting–if you’re interested in knowing more about these, please contact me.

This may of interest to faculty and graduate students:  The HathiTrust Research Center sponsors a workshop targeted to digital humanities tool developers, researchers, and librarians.  The workshop, called the HTRC Uncamp, is in its third year.  The next Uncamp will be held March 30-31, 2015 at the University of Michigan.  Information about this event and the two previous Uncamps is available on the HathiTrust website.
