The Virginia Tech Graduate School Child Play Group (VT-GS-CPG) is a parent-run cooperative playgroup for children between the ages of 2 and 5 with a paid on-site program director. The program will operate three group sessions per day and each group will consist of 15 children. Each session is three hours with sessions offered in the morning, afternoon, and evening. The cooperative plans to rent space within walking distance of campus. As part of the agreement, program participants will have access to the location’s outdoor spaces.
The mission of VT-GS-CPG is to provide a welcoming, safe and creative environment for children ages 2 to 5 to socialize and grow through loosely structured, play-based activities and programs. At our core is a commitment to diversity and equity; genuine collaboration between facilitators, student-parent-volunteers and children; and a creative and flexible approach to supporting each child’s cognitive, social and emotional growth. The VT-GS-CPG will provide a flexible and affordable childcare solution to improve the work-life balance and overall quality of life of Virginia Tech students, staff and faculty. The program expects to produce a number of positive outcomes including the recruitment of new students, higher retention rates, and improved graduate rates.
In order to participate in this program, parents must be able to pass a basic criminal history check. The instructions for completing this mandatory three-step process can be found here.
