The Babysitter Clearing House is an initiative aimed at creating a pool of qualified babysitters in the area for Graduate Student families to access. All sitters and parents involved in the program will go through a brief orientation process, agree to a set pay scale, and understand the limitation of liability from Virginia Tech. This database of potential sitters will be regularly maintained in an effort to keep the information current and accurate. In addition, parents will be able to utilize a web-based forum within the Graduate School website to review and comment on their experiences with sitters found through this initiative.

Program Requirements

Babysitters:

Potential sitters agree to:

  • Complete an online orientation
  • Agree to waive liability for participating in the program
  • Be reviewed in a closed forum by the families for which they work
  • Be paid in cash at each appointment

CPR and First Aid certifications are not required, but will increase potential pay. Sitters should have a moderate level of experience and be prepared to answer questions from parents about their interests and experience. All sitters are encouraged to reach out to the Child Care Coordinator with questions and concerns at any time via email: childcare@vt.edu

Parents:

Families must agree to:

  • Complete an online orientation
  • Agree to waive liability
  • Commit to paying in cash at each appointment
  • Abide by certain standards outlined in the orientation

In an effort to aid other families, participants also commit to regularly providing feedback via the online forum on the individuals that they have employed. Families are encouraged to reach out to the Child Care Coordinator with questions and concerns at any time via email: childcare@vt.edu
