*UPDATE* ILL Utilizing Central Authentication Service

Due to logistical issues concerning the implementation of CAS, ILL is postponing the use of CAS until mid-summer. Exact date will be released as soon as more information is known.

In May 2013, the Newman Library and Interlibrary Loan will join EZProxy (aka Off Campus Sign-in) in using the Central Authentication Service (CAS).   This will allow patrons to access their My Library and ILLiad accounts using their Virginia Tech PID and password.  Patrons have requested for years to have a universal login to access library and university resources, alleviating the need to remember a login and password combination for placing recalls or an ILLiad request that may be different than that used for Scholar and HokieSpa.

To accomplish the change, Interlibrary Loan is working with Atlas Systems, Inc. to convert current user accounts, which may have usernames totally different than the patron’s VT PID, starting in late April.  After a period of testing and reconciling any accounts that could not be matched, Atlas will activate CAS for ILLiad.  In addition to providing a more consistent login, CAS will enable ILL to determine users’ affiliations with the university.

My Library Account users currently enter their name and ID number, and the change should not be difficult for Virginia Tech members, though accommodations will need to be made for the many Virginia residents who use our library.

Full implementation is scheduled for May 21.
