Hello, and welcome to Not Your бабушка’s blog! My name is Courtney Howell and I am a sophomore at Virginia Tech. I’m studying history, political science with a concentration in national security studies, Russian, and philosophy. This blog was created during the Fall 2013 semester for the course “20th Century Russian history”. From the outset the class was described as a blogging experiment. At the beginning of the semester, each student in the course created a unique WordPress site through blogs.lt.vt.edu. In addition to these individual blogs, a Motherblog was created that syndicated our posts and featured all of our blogs as contributors. Each Sunday throughout the semester we would post about an important event, person, or theme in Soviet history. To do this, we relied on the site Seventeen Moments in Soviet History, the book Russia: A History by Gregory L. Freeze, the database Current Digest of the Soviet Press, and several other sites that can be found here and here. This site features my contributions to the course and serves as my own personal blogging experiment. Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy the fruits of my Stakhanovite labor.
