Annual Bob Duncan Memorial 5K Saturday, April 27, 2013

The Bob Duncan Memorial 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for April 27, 9 am at the Virginia Tech cross country trail behind the vet school.  The registration form is attached and may be found at http://www.vetmed.vt.edu/development/duncan5k.asp.

Many of you will have known Bob and recognize the legacy of his life: a life of generosity, service, and leadership.  He made a difference in many lives, through his professional and personal life.  Some of you may not have met him but have become acquainted with our daughter, Taylor, or with me (Dr. Susan Duncan, FST).  We hope that we are living his legacy. The Bob Duncan Memorial 5K continues his legacy.  It is an opportunity for anyone to get out and walk or run the distance.  This event is not about the competition, although there are some FAST competitors, but more about the opportunity to share in the fellowship of friendship.  If you walk, you can participate in this event!  If you talk, you can cheer for those who walk/run and talk with those who come together to remember Bob, renew old friendships and begin new ones. The race proceeds and contributions support scholarships and professional meeting travel for veterinary students who are pursuing an interest in veterinary pathology.  Bob was an exceptional student mentor and advocate for student professional development in pathology.  This event supports the continuation of his professional and personal legacy.

  1. I think Shaun and I both plan to support this great cause! Still time to start training, for those who would consider taking part!

  2. Thank you, Brenda and Shaun, for posting this notice and for your participation. Bob was a great example of an individual who struggled with weight issues and made a life style change through diet (Weight Watchers) and exercise (running and biking). He was so motivated to help others that he became a Weight Watchers volunteer and part time employee. The women in the group loved his motivational encouragement! Regardless of your abilities, everyone is welcome to participate in this event and I hope to see many accept the invitation.
