The new Spidermobile?

Yeah, actually this is the old Spidermobile (1st appearance in Amazing Spider-Man #130). The newest “Spidermobile” looks more like this:

Turns out this story is not actually related to comic books, so much as the recent recall of some 870,000 Toyotas due to an issue that could result in the unexpected deployment of the airbag. How is this even interesting, you might ask? Well…

…in some cases it has been caused by spiders.

Yup. Turns out the little rascals like to construct webs in the AC drainage tube of model year 2012 and 2013 Camrys, Venzas and Avalons. At least they have good taste! Fortunately, this has not resulted in very many incidents. For the full story, visit CNN Money:

Interestingly enough, this is not even the first time that such a thing has happened.

It turns out this guy prompted a recall of about 52,000 Mazdas back in 2011.

Who knew that a little bit of spider web could cause so much trouble? Well, besides the fine folks at Mazda, that is. And Peter Parker, of course. Let us just hope that mud daubers never decide that car engines would be an excellent place to construct their nests…

Ha! I had to come back and update this post to include this awesome comic:

  1. Bee nests inside the gas door are not as dangerous, but can be fun too!
