I am a Ph.D. student in the Geospatial and Environmental Analysis Program at Virginia Tech. My current research focuses on the expansion and contraction of headwater stream length in the Appalachian Highlands. For my dissertation, I am comparing wetting and drying dynamics of first- and second-order catchments in the Blue Ridge, Valley and Ridge, Appalachian Plateau, and New England physiographic provinces. I plan to use the field data I collect to model wetted channel length as a function of stream discharge and topographic attributes in headwater regions, which are areally extensive, poorly mapped, and often hard to access.
When not in school or hiking around my field sites, I enjoy being outside running or playing on/in/around rivers, as suggested by my pictures.
